Reflections on the 2016 season
Last season was a mixed one for the cricket club on-the-field. After flirting with relegation for most of the campaign the first XI managed to get some good results towards the end of the season and retained their status in Division 3 of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance.
Unfortunately following some disappointing results the ‘A’ team were relegated and will play this season in Norfolk Cricket League Division 4 South East.
On a positive note the club were able to reintroduce a competitive Sunday side following several seasons of absence. The Sunday team play in Division 2 of the Mid-Norfolk Sunday Cricket League this season.
Off-the-field the club had an excellent season, hosting the first ever Maltings Beer Festival which raised some important funds that have helped purchase new sightscreens. The club benefitted from a new committee under the chairmanship of Stuart Buck and also saw a number of new Vice Presidents join the club.
Looking forward to the 2017 season
This season the club is looking to build on these off-field achievements, hoping that they will translate into on-field successes. A significant development is the introduction of a U17’s side, which expands the number of junior cricket sides that the club is running from four to five.
The league season kicks-off for the first XI at Great Melton on 29th April, with the ‘A’ team starting their league campaign on the same day with a home tie against Hales and Loddon ‘A’. The Sunday side will start their season on May 7th with a home game against Hemsby.
