Hi All,
Just an update for all of you loyal supporters around the club, that have stayed with us through some difficult times.
I would like to personally thank you all for remaining loyal to the club.
I'd like to thank Lee Henwood for his efforts when asked to take over from Wayne Hunter in late June. This was a very difficult time, as players had left, and Lee inherited a very trying situation, but he tried very hard to assemble a squad. Unfortunately things didn't go in Lee's favour, but it must be recognised that his efforts were very valuable at the time, and we as a club were very grateful to him.
The club made the change, and appointed Jason Cook - this seemed the right way to go with Jason's Thurlow Nunn experience at Diss Tow. Again Jason tried his hardest, but he had a real problem with getting his players over from Grundisburgh, which we as a club couldn't do anything to help him with. Some players did come in,but results were hard to come by. Jason worked hard to turn things around, but after a meeting,he made the decision to move on,and let somebody else take the reins. We would again like to thank Jason for his efforts.
At this stage we were not in the greatest position, bottom 2,and no Manager, people were I believe, looking in on us,and some with a smile on their face at our demise.
But after a couple of phone conversations, and a meeting, the club were relieved and excited that John Riches was to return as Player Manager. At this juncture I must stress that he bought in Matt Lowe and Steven Thonpson-Friend,and they have come in as a JOINT Management team, all 3 working tirelessly behind the scenes. Players have returned, including Darrell Wigger and Brannan Solomon, for me 2 huge signings. In addition, Shane Smith has come in from Norton, and has settled in really well. All 3 of these guys have got us playing again, with players wanting to wear the shirt. Stan Dossett,Olly Alexander,Lewis Goode,James Wightman and Jack Howes have also played 1st team football from our Under 18s. Also, Tommy Miller has improved hugely from playing Reserve team football, and is also knocking on the 1st team door, another U18 player. Together, John, Matt and Steve have so far made a huge difference - from 5 Games played, 3 wins and 2 draws, and 11 points, is an excellent return. I must thank these 3 for taking the roles on,and proving how much they want the club to succeed.
Stu Campbell and Ashley Henderson have also seen an improvement in results for the Reserves. Again, Stu's hard work goes so unnoticed,he came in at such a difficult time, but has got on with things, never called a game off for being short, and given many U18 players a game. This has proven to be an excellent appointment, and Stu needs much praise for his hard work.
Dave Went is the only manager I know, who can come 10th in Division 2 with his 'A' team, and gain promotion to Div 1,simply a terrible decision by that league, and not prepared to listen to any explanation,it's just wrong. But Mr Went has as per usual just got on with it,again, his passion and desire for the club is Top Draw,he always gets his games played, always gets a side out,and has won some games in a very difficult league,he will complete the season, and who knows,he may finish 10th again, and gain promotion to the Anglian Combination League...
Well Done Dave for what has been a dreadful decision made by the league, but you have got on with it,and that's an exceptional effort.
I'd also like to thank Jon Fuller,Tony Sprake,Kevin O'Beirne and Simon Warren for their continued support, and I must not forget Mick Simpson. Mick has been very poorly after a knee operation just after the season, the Op hasn't been a success, and he has been ill and in a lot of pain, but he has continued to do a superb job as secretary,a job nobody wants, and he is irreplacable.
Olly Flood has also been invaluable in his help around the club, especially the U18's,another person whose help goes unnoticed.
Sorry its long, but needed to be said.
Richard Daniels
