BUNGAY Town have finished third in the Anglian Combination division one – their highest position in the league for 30 years.
With Sheringham leaving the premier division for the Thurlow Nunn League it is likely that will be good enough for promotion to the top flight – but they now have a nervous wait until that is confirmed. Bungay were last in the premier division in 1989-90.
Whatever happens it has been a successful season, however – they lost only four out of 30 league games, two at home and two away, and no side completed the double over them.
Josh Knights made the most appearances. No player was ever present, but the midfielder missed only two of the 31 games in a season which saw veteran Craig Hunting become the top appearance maker in the club’s history. He passed Graeme Jolly’s previous best mark and has now made 566 appearances.
Defender and captain Shaun Whiteman finished as top scorer on 13, including six penalties. Dom Mirner and Ash Canham each hit 11 goals, with Mirner’s taking his total to 78.
